General Questions
What is ProctrMe?
ProctrMe is an AI-powered online proctored examination platform that enables educational institutions to conduct secure, remotely-monitored exams. The platform uses real-time face detection, phone recognition, tab-switch monitoring, and anti-screenshot technology to maintain exam integrity — all running locally in the student's browser for maximum privacy.
Who is ProctrMe designed for?
ProctrMe is built for schools, colleges, universities, coaching institutes, corporate training programs, and any organisation that needs to conduct secure assessments online. We serve educators, proctors, and institutional administrators across 150+ countries.
Is ProctrMe free to use?
Yes! ProctrMe offers a free Starter plan that includes up to 30 students per exam, 5 exams per month, AI face detection, tab-switch monitoring, and instant auto-grading for MCQ questions. No credit card is required. For larger institutions, we offer Professional (₹2,999/mo) and Enterprise (₹9,999/mo) plans with additional features. See our Pricing page for details.
Do students need to install any software?
No. ProctrMe runs entirely in the web browser — no downloads, plugins, or browser extensions are required. Students simply open the ProctrMe website, enter their exam credentials, and begin. This makes it compatible with virtually any device including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.
Taking an Exam
How do I join an exam as a student?
- Go to proctrme.tech
- Enter the Exam ID and your Registration ID (provided by your institution)
- Click "Secure Login"
- Complete the pre-exam checklist (camera, audio, window size)
- Wait for the proctor to start the session
- Take the exam and submit when done
What devices and browsers are supported?
ProctrMe works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. It supports desktop computers, laptops, tablets (iPad, Android tablets), and smartphones (iPhone, Android). For the best experience, we recommend using Chrome on a desktop or laptop with a stable internet connection and a functioning webcam.
What happens if my internet disconnects during the exam?
ProctrMe saves your answers in real-time to Firebase. If your connection drops briefly, your progress is preserved. When you reconnect, the exam resumes from where you left off. However, extended disconnections may be logged as suspicious activity. We recommend a stable internet connection of at least 1 Mbps for the best experience.
Can I go back to previous questions?
Within a section, you can navigate between questions freely using the Previous and Next buttons. However, once a timed section expires or you move to the next section, you cannot return to previous sections. This is a common exam security measure to prevent students from modifying answers after seeing later questions.
Security & Privacy
What security measures does ProctrMe use?
ProctrMe employs multiple layers of security:
- AI Face Detection: Real-time monitoring using TinyFaceDetector to verify the student is present and alone.
- Phone Detection: COCO-SSD object recognition to detect mobile phones in the camera frame.
- Tab-Switch Monitoring: Detects when students switch browser tabs or minimise the window.
- Anti-Screenshot DRM: Preemptive screen blur on modifier keys, clipboard wiping, canvas poisoning, and print blocking.
- Anti-Copy Protection: Blocks text selection, right-click context menus, and keyboard shortcuts for copy/paste.
- Split-Screen Detection: Monitors window dimensions to detect split-screen and floating window usage.
Is my webcam footage stored on your servers?
No. ProctrMe processes all webcam frames locally in your browser using TensorFlow.js. No video or images are uploaded to our servers or stored anywhere. Only metadata (violation timestamps, types, and counts) is recorded in your exam session log. This privacy-first approach is a core design principle of our platform and aligns with GDPR data minimisation requirements.
What data does ProctrMe collect?
We collect: Registration ID, exam answers and timestamps, violation event logs (tab switches, face detection alerts), device type and browser information, and session duration. We do not collect video footage, audio recordings, or biometric data beyond real-time face presence detection. See our full Privacy Policy for details.
What happens if the AI incorrectly flags me for a violation?
AI proctoring systems can occasionally generate false positives — for example, if a family member walks behind you or poor lighting temporarily prevents face detection. ProctrMe uses configurable violation thresholds, and most proctors set a minimum count before taking action. Individual alerts are not typically grounds for disqualification; proctors review the full violation log in context. If you believe a violation was flagged incorrectly, contact your proctor or institution's exam administrator.
For Proctors & Administrators
How do I create an exam?
Log in to the Proctor Dashboard, navigate to the Exam Builder, and create your exam by adding sections and questions. Supported question types include Multiple Choice (MCQ), True/False, and Short Answer. You can set individual timers per section, enable question randomisation, and configure scoring. Once created, share the generated Exam ID with your students.
Can I import questions from a spreadsheet?
Yes. ProctrMe's batch import feature allows you to upload questions from a structured spreadsheet format. This is particularly useful for institutions with existing question banks. The import wizard maps your spreadsheet columns to question fields (question text, options, correct answer, section, etc.).
How do I monitor students during the exam?
The Proctor Dashboard provides a real-time view of all connected students showing: online/offline status, violation counts by type (tab switches, face alerts, phone detections), progress through the exam, and session metadata. You can also pause the exam for all students if needed and view live violation feeds.
Can I export results to Google Sheets?
Yes. ProctrMe integrates with Google Sheets for result export. After the exam completes, you can export comprehensive results including student names, scores, individual question responses, violation logs, and session timestamps directly to a Google Sheet for institutional record-keeping and analysis.
Technical Requirements
What are the minimum system requirements?
- Browser: Chrome 80+, Firefox 78+, Safari 14+, or Edge 80+
- Internet: 1 Mbps minimum (2+ Mbps recommended)
- Webcam: Any functioning camera (built-in or external)
- RAM: 2 GB minimum (4 GB recommended for AI features)
- JavaScript: Must be enabled
- Cookies: Must be enabled for session management
Does ProctrMe work on iPhones and iPads?
Yes. ProctrMe supports iOS devices running Safari 14 or later. The platform automatically detects iPadOS "Desktop Mode" and adjusts security checks accordingly. Note that iPhones do not support the Fullscreen API, so ProctrMe uses alternative "Immersive Mode" features on iOS. For iPads, we recommend using Safari in full-screen for the best experience.
What if my webcam doesn't work?
If ProctrMe cannot access your webcam (due to permissions, hardware issues, or an insecure connection), you'll see an option to "bypass and login in Limited Mode." In Limited Mode, the exam proceeds without AI face detection, but your proctor will be notified that you're in reduced-security mode. Tab-switch monitoring and other protections remain active.
